Quality
At Largo quality is very important to us. We only use the best ingredients. We carefully select our equipment to make sure we produce and pack the product as freshly as is possible. And of course our staff are most important as they’re the ones who actually make the product. We continually look at new training methods. We’ve recently started a major program of Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing. This is using best practice methods developed by Japanese, European and American manufacturers.
Some of our staff will become so expert they’ll be called Black Belts and Green Belts! We’re always trying to be better because we believe that’s the best way to stay as Ireland’s favourite brands.
The Highest Standards
We do lots of testing of our products before during and after manufacturing but we don’t just leave it there. We get experts from outside the company to come in and check us out regularly to make sure we’re reaching the highest standards. These include:
- The British Retail Consortium (BRC) – Grade A standard
- The American Institute of Bakers (AIB)
- The Organic Society
- The Department of Agriculture and The HSE
- Our largest retail customers
Our Environment
The environment is where we and our customers live, work and play so it is very dear to us. We are a large company so we want to minimise our impact on our surroundings. These are some examples of how we try to do this:
We buy our potatoes from farms within a 20 mile radius of the factory. |
Our corrugated packaging comes from a factory within 2 miles of the factory. |
Greater than 99% of our waste is recycled. |
Our energy management is in accordance the European EN16001 standard and we have the objective to reduce our consumption by 10% over the next 12 months. |
We contribute to the running of Repak who are the major operator of recycling centres and who provide education on waste reduction. |
We recycle water within our factory so that we are one of the lowest users of water within our industry peers in Europe. Our waste water is treated to the highest standards (BOD <5 mg/Kg). |
Our factory is sited in landscaped grounds to blend in as seamlessly as is possible with the local environment. |
Our crisps and snack brands are manufactured and distributed in Ireland. Our competitors manufacture outside the Island and must transport their product. |
Of course we are looking at ways to minimise our impact further and we are progressing an energy from waste project to produce our energy needs from the waste the factory generates.
