STATEMENT Largo Foods was fined €2,000 today in Navan District Court for a breach of Regulation No. 852/2004 and Regulation No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament. Largo Foods deeply regrets and unreservedly apologises for this breach which occurred in May, 2015. The action was brought by the Health Service Executive (HSE) in relation to a system malfunction that occurred in the production of one batch of O’Donnells Gluten Free 50g Mature Irish Cheese & Onion crisps. The malfunction arose when a gluten-containing snack produced on a line adjacent to the gluten-free O’Donnells production line, over-flowed onto the O’Donnell’s line. This resulted in a gluten-containing snack accidentally being packed in a bag of crisps. Arising from this, Largo Foods immediately instigated and successfully completed a full product recall on 5th May 2015. Retailers were notified and notices were posted in stores. The following week, on 12th May 2015, the HSE visited Largo Foods whereupon the parties agreed an action plan. Largo Foods worked closely with the HSE to implement the recommendations arising from the action plan which resulted in a significant investment in the complete segregation of production lines. After an inspection of the Largo Foods production facility, on the 4th November 2015 the HSE approved the corrective actions that had been taken. In addition to the court fine, Largo Foods has made a voluntary donation to the Coeliac Society of Ireland.   END...
