Role overview:
This role provides day to day management and leadership to a combined team of Business Development Representatives and Merchandisers. The successful candidate is responsible for building and developing the team within the region to execute agreed plans. In addition, this candidate will have responsibility to contribute to the development and execution of effective commercial and business development strategies.
This position requires exceptional commercial, leadership, communication and presentation skills coupled with the ability to ensure exceptional execution of best in class marketing, commercial and business initiatives in a fast paced FMCG environment.
Strong retail experience is essential. The post holder must have high energy, ambition, strategic thinking skills and be capable of success in a challenging rapidly changing business environment.
The Individual:
  • Industry knowledge- candidates will come from blue chip, performance orientated businesses, which have undergone periods of transformation.
  • Functional- candidates will demonstrate extensive sales management and leadership experience in each of the sales disciplines. They will also have experience of embedding new ways of working, etc
  • Business awareness- has a comprehensive understanding of developments in the retail sector, in particular trends impacting customer requirements and preferences.
  • Strategic thinking- thinks deeply and broadly about the business, moves easily between strategy and tactics; devises clear practical plans for achieving complex goals.
  • Experienced people manager with proven track record of managing and leading a team to deliver high performing results.
  • Business acumen- in generic terms, individuals must possess outstanding commercial skills and a sharp business intellect. As well as having the gravitas and credibility to influence effectively with the executive team, they must also have the flexibility to operate effectively up and down the organisation.
  • Results orientation/ Executing for results- takes personal responsibility for problems/ ensuring outcomes, able to cope with stress, emotionally resilient. Candidates must show high delivery skills and action orientation, with intensity and drive to achieve excellence in leadership and execution.
  • Organisational Skills- ability to effectively plan, meet objectives, excellent personal organisation.
  • Analytical ability: gets to the heart of business issues quickly, is not distracted by unnecessary detail; comfortable with numerical and financial issues; understands the implications of decisions for the overall financial performance of the patch/ business.
  • Motivational skills; provides inspirational leadership, enthuses, motivates and empowers others, encourages creativity and intelligent risk taking.
